This guide is for the Phene Android app. If you haven't installed it yet, follow the Android installation guide first.
Downloading a movie
Open any movie in the app and tap the Download button. A stream picker will appear showing the available versions, sorted by file size. Pick the one you want and tap Download.
The stream picker lets you choose quality and see the file size before downloading. Lower quality means smaller files — useful when storage is tight.
Tip: Check "Delete after watching" if you only want the file temporarily. Phene will automatically remove it after you finish watching.
Downloading a TV series
Series work a bit differently. Tap Download on a series page and you'll get an episode picker first. Select the episodes you want — you can pick individual episodes, entire seasons, or everything at once.
After selecting episodes, Phene scans for available streams, then presents quality tiers. Choose a tier (e.g. 1080p or 720p) and the app picks the best matching stream for each episode. Tap Download and all selected episodes are queued.
Managing the download queue
Go to Library and tap the Queue tab to see everything that's downloading or waiting. The queue shows a progress header with your overall download speed and status.
You can reorder items by long-pressing and dragging. Tap the status icon on any item to pause or resume it individually. Use Pause All if you need to free up bandwidth temporarily.
Deleting downloads
When you're done with a download, go to Settings → Storage → Manage Downloads. This shows all your downloaded movies and series with their file sizes.
Select items and tap Delete Selected. For series, you can expand the group to delete individual episodes instead of the whole series. The files are removed from your device immediately.
Clearing vs deleting: Tapping "Clear Completed" in the queue only removes the entry from the queue list — the downloaded files stay on your device. To actually free storage, use Manage Downloads in Settings.
WiFi and cellular downloads
By default, Phene only downloads over WiFi. If you switch to cellular data, active downloads automatically pause until you reconnect to WiFi. If you want to allow downloads on cellular, turn off Download over WiFi only in Settings.
When WiFi-only is on (the default) and you lose WiFi, active downloads automatically pause and a banner appears at the top of the app. They resume as soon as you reconnect.
Heads up: If you're on a metered WiFi connection (hotel, hotspot), Android may still report it as WiFi. Phene follows what Android says — if you're worried about data, pause downloads manually.
Queue management tips
Priority and ordering
New downloads go to the bottom of the queue by default. Check "Add to top of queue" in the stream picker to jump the line. You can also long-press and drag items to reorder them at any time.
Failed downloads
If a download fails (usually because a stream link expired), the queue shows a Retry button. Tapping it fetches a fresh stream link and resumes. You can also tap "Change stream" to pick a different quality.
Download while streaming
You can stream and download at the same time. If you notice buffering, go to Settings → Download Throttle and set it to pause or throttle downloads during playback. This gives priority to whatever you're watching.
Storage limits
Phene lets you set a storage limit for downloads so you don't fill your phone. Go to Settings → Storage and adjust the limit. The stream picker shows a storage bar so you can see at a glance whether a download will fit.
