What you need

An Android TV device connected to Wi-Fi, and a phone or computer with a Phene account. That's it. No cables, no computer, no developer settings.

Installation steps

  1. Install the Downloader app

On your TV, open the Google Play Store (or Amazon Appstore on Fire TV). Search for "Downloader" by AFTVnews and install it. It's free.

Most Android TV users already have this — check if it's installed first
  2. Open Downloader and enter the URL

Launch the Downloader app and type the following into the URL field:

    tv.phene.net

Press Go. The page will load and show a download button for the latest version of Phene.

  3. Download and install

Tap Download. Once it finishes, Downloader will ask if you want to install — tap Install.

If prompted, allow "Install from unknown sources" for the Downloader app in your TV settings
  4. Open Phene and sign in

Launch Phene from your TV's app list. A QR code will appear on screen.

Grab your phone and scan the QR code with your camera app. This opens a link that signs your TV in automatically — no typing passwords with a remote.

  5. You're in

That's it. Browse your library, discover content, and stream — all from your TV. Your watch progress, library, and preferences sync across all your devices.

Updating Phene: When a new version is available, the app will let you know. Just repeat steps 2 and 3 to download and install the update. Your data and sign-in are preserved.

Compatible devices

Phene works on any device running Android TV or Google TV. It also works on Amazon Fire TV devices (which run a modified version of Android).

Troubleshooting

"Install from unknown sources" prompt

Android TV requires you to allow sideloading per-app. Go to Settings → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and enable it for the Downloader app. On Fire TV, it's under Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → Install unknown apps.

QR code not scanning

Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. If your phone's camera doesn't scan QR codes, try Google Lens or any free QR scanner app. The QR code contains a web link — it works in any browser.

Downloader not available on my TV

If the Play Store doesn't have Downloader (rare), you can use any browser on your TV to visit tv.phene.net and download the APK directly. Some TVs have a built-in browser in the app list.

Fire TV specific

On Amazon Fire TV devices, the Downloader app is available in the Amazon Appstore (not Google Play). Everything else works the same. Search "Downloader" in the Fire TV app store.
